Wall Mount Standards
Wall Mounts are standarized by the Flat Display Mounting Interface or short FDMI specifications, better know as VESA Mounting Interface Standard. Since the standarization took place, almost all wall mounts sold in the United States are FDMI and Vesa compliant, so you can be sure it fits your HDTV as long as you buy a mount according to the HDTV manufacturers specifications of the HDTV itself. So, always look for the FDMI specs when buying a mount and make sure you read the part about mounting to the wall in your HDTV user manual.
FDMI explained
The FDMI code always starts with MIS or VESA MIS, followed by a letter and numbers specifying the allowed diagonal of the HDTV as well as the distance of the screw holes in centimeters. A very huge an heavy TV like a 58-Inch Plasma requires different screw holes and a strudier mount than very light models like a 26-Inch LCD Screen.
